If you are a guy, you probably have a whole bunch of neat gadgets and gizmo’s laying around all over the place. The more of these things you have, the more space you will need to store all of these. The more you have, the more time it will rob from you. You have to store this stuff somewhere. When you are doing other things, all that stuff may be and probably will be in the way. Now you have to move the stuff. If you ever decide to move, you will have to pack it up, move it, and then unpack it again. How much of your valuable time will this take away from you?
Guys are great for buying tools. To start cleaning out, ask yourself if you really need that tool. Think hard about whether or not you already own a tool that will do what this new tool will do. This goes for all those neat toys in the kitchen to. Do you have the latest and greatest new pasta maker? Think how many times you will or have actually used it. Is it worth the space it takes up if you are not using it but 2 or 4 times a year? If not, get rid of it. More space for something else.
How do you get out of the habit of buying the latest and greatest thing to come along? Stop looking at all those flyer’s from home depot. Get off the mailing lists and email lists of the monthly tool or monthly kitchen appliance mailers.
If you stop getting the stuff to begin with, you will not have to deal with finding a spot to store something that you may never use more than once or twice. This will make it easier when you start the organizing part of this.
